Food Porn

A good friend once called a cookbook food porn. I guess it's not fair to just say a cookbook, that makes it sound so run of the mill and the book he was referring to is anything but. Nothing against Betty Crocker, she has a good ol' reliable banana bread recipe that's a home-run. The book he was referring to was The Momofuku Cookbook by David Chang. I've perused a copy or two, but I don't personally own it. I'm not ready.

I received Thomas Keller's ad hoc at home for Christmas from my (future) sister-in-law's family. Now that is food porn. I mean c'mon look at the cover - that's my new favorite meat, right there on the cover!

The other cook book that I received from Shannon's family...or maybe it was just from Andreas, her hubby. After all he's as obsessed with cook books as I am. When visiting Cameron and I in NYC (we were his camp when he took week-long ICE (Institute of Culinary Education) courses), he bought his copy of Momofuku. I drooled over it when he came back to the apartment with it in hand. Of course I may also have been drooling over the tiramisu that he brought home from class that evening, but I digress.

This blog was motivated by Jamie Oliver because he authored the other book I received for Christmas, Jamie's Food Revolution. I can't say enough great things about this cookbook. I blogged about it this past winter when I was experimenting with his recipes. I must have made 4 or 5 things, then not touched the cookbook for months. I watched his show this past Friday night, woah, that is one passionate man! I guess I've been thinking about it ever since, so tonight when I sat down to think about my menu for the week, I thought of Jamie.

When I pulled down Jamie's Food Revolution from high upon my fridge, I was greeted by happy flags of bright orange sticky note paper marking all of the recipes that I either had already tried or was planning to try. Shame on me for neglecting Jamie all these months! I began flipping through tonight's food porn and was reminded that there are some real winners in this baby. The Sweet Potato and Chorizo Soup that I made a few months back was phenomenal! I used 100% local ingredients for that one too. With the 90 degree days and lack of central A/C, a story for another time, it's no surprise that the chapter that really hooked me was Lovin' Salads:

My friends are having a little Memorial Day Barbecue tomorrow by the pool and I have added a few more orange stickies marking recipes that I want to try out this week. Stay tuned to find out what delicious dishes I put together...  and actually, wish me luck finding the ingredients on Memorial Day, this could get interesting. Happy Cooking Everyone!
