This past weekend the Taste Carolina crew got together for a surprise baby shower for the founder (and my boss) Lesley. Unfortunately I haven't been to a ton of baby showers because for one reason or another the date and timing of my sisters' or friends' showers has never quite worked out. Wanting to be involved, and knowing that of everyone on our ten person team I have the most free time, I volunteered to pick up some gifts from her registry at Buy Buy Baby. Then came a flash of inspiration. Her hubby, who was in on the surprise, told us that what they really really needed were diapers. I don't know where or when I saw it since I haven't been to very many showers, but at some point in time I saw a diaper cake and thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Step one, watch a YouTube video to learn how the heck those things are made. Second step, go shopping. The group had decided that we should get her one big item from her registry and then pick up some smaller, fun things as well. This worked out well as I got the stroller adapter, two packs of diapers, and then all the stuff that I thought was cute and could double as decorations for the cake. Next stop, OfficeMax for rubber bands. Then, the craft store for ribbon, and finally The Dollar Tree for wrapping paper and a cellophane gift bag.
A couple of hours later, voila:
I am so darn proud of that thing. I figure that if things don't work out with Taste Carolina, I could go into business making and selling baby diaper cakes. Here's another picture without the flash so you can see the adorable ribbon in the middle - so cute!
The best part was that Lesley was super surprised about the shower and she and her husband LOVED the diaper cake! Yay, success!
Wow! I love this! I've seen them many times before but I don't know anyone who has actually made one! Impressive!
