Happy Friday everyone! I just finished packing for our whitewater trip this weekend and figured I'd stop by the blog to say hello to everyone and give a quick update of my week. Since the rafting trip is all I can think about, I'll just get that out of the way. Cameron and I joined the Outdoor Club at Fuqua, and this weekend 39 of us are heading to West Virginia for a rafting trip of the Gauley River led by Ace Adventures. We leave in just a couple of hours to head up to the campground and then we'll get an early start on the river tomorrow. I'm excited, but also a bit nervous. The Gauley River is a very serious river with class III-V rapids. I'm not sure what happened to my sense of adventure, perhaps I lived in NYC for too long, but I'm more looking forward to camping and S'mores than I am to the actual whitewater rafting. I'm sure that will change once we are there and I've heard the area is breath-takingly beautiful so I will make sure to take any pictures I can manage and mentally document the adventures to share with you when I get back Sunday.
So what else have I been up to this week? I didn't cook much because I decided it was time to clean out the fridge and cabinets and start fresh. In that effort I did have some jalepeno peppers that I made into poppers and they were delicious. Cameron actually volunteered to help make a big batch next time around so that we can freeze some for quick entertaining appetizers. I'll let you know how that goes. Tuesday night I got together with the girls to celebrate a birthday and watch Glee. Melissa hosted a nice get-together that included pizza from Cinelli's. I think we'll probably try to make Glee watching a weekly event, but there are lots of other shows that us girls have in common so perhaps it will be a rotating schedule. Cameron might be jealous if he doesn't ever get to watch Glee with me. Don't tell him I said that.
Last night I went to a Partner's event at the new brewery in town, Fullsteam. Just one visit and I think I have a new favorite spot. Fullsteam's founders are on a mission to define a Southern craft beer style and I'm happy to support that mission as long as they keep up the great work. I tasted two beers from their Plow to Pint series in which they seek to use locally harvested ingredients. They actually sell half-pints so that you can taste and enjoy without committing to the full pint and/or jeopardizing your DD status. I tried both the Summer Basil and the Carver Sweet Potato. Others in the group went with their Workers' Compensation series beers. As the website reads, they are "beer[s] for conversation, not introspection" because "sometimes you don't want the earth to be shattered. You just want a beer". First people to visit us gets a free pint on me :-)
Well it's getting close to time to leave so I gotta run. Wish us luck rafting this weekend and keep checking back for new posts.
Have fun on the trip!! Miss seeing you -- was out of town all week, and now working all weekend :/
