Cameron and I managed to escape our realities for a little while on Thursday and headed down the road to Chapel Hill. It was strange being in the heart of UNC territory. Neither of us wore any Duke gear, but I felt as though people knew that we had come from the wrong side of the Triangle.
We drove down historic Franklin Street taking in all of the sites and eventually we got lucky and found street parking. On a friend's recommendation, we marched our way to Top of the Hill for lunch. I enjoyed the L'Oeuf Royale (below) and Cameron had the Black and Blue Burger. Both dishes were excellent, and it was easy to see why this place was so highly recommended.
Of course, we were reminded whose territory we were in as a firetruck passed by. Wouldn't you know, Chapel Hill firetrucks are BLUE, Tarheel blue to be exact.
We finished our lunches and decided that we wanted to take our adventures elsewhere. Seeing as how it was a beautiful, warm, late summer day, we headed toward the countryside for some homemade ice cream.
Just northwest of Chapel Hill, past Carrboro is a farm rich town called Hillsborough. Hillsborough is the home of Maple View Farm, a picturesque 400 acre dairy farm that produces milk, cheese, butter, corn, and (best of all) ice cream. After digging around a bit I discovered that the farm actually started in Maine in the early 1800s by a guy with the same name as Cameron's dad, Roger Nutter. Too funny, no wonder we loved the place so much! Anyway, in the 1960's they figured out that a better milk market and climate for double cropping was here in North Carolina and have been growing their business ever since. As we sat in the rocking chairs enjoying our ice cream Cameron made my day when he commented, "This feels like a vacation". Phew! Mission accomplished.

Fun day! We lived in Hillsborough when we went to Duke...cute town...not sure we ever found that Farm though which is disappointing now that I read about it. :-)
